Michael Llodra is hoping he will be selected in the French team for next month's Davis Cup final against Serbia.
Llodra has been a vital element of the French side this year, winning singles and doubles rubbers as Spain and Argentina were comprehensively whitewashed. However his place for the final looked potentially in doubt after a run of poor form this autumn.
However Llodra turned his indoor season on its head at the Paris Masters where he scythed his way through the draw, stunning Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko en route to the semi-finals. He may well have gone all the way if he had held his nerve and converted one of several match points against eventual champion Robin Soderling.
“I'm not going to lie to you, he is earning points at the moment,” said French captain Guy Forget. "Mika is a key player in doubles. In the singles, the player who adapts the best will be granted a spot. I’m in a comfortable position, with four or five players capable of beating anybody in a good day.”
Gael Monfils looks a certainly for one of the singles spots with Llodra, Richard Gasquet, Gilles Simon and Arnaud Clement fighting over the remaining three places. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been ruled out with a knee injury.
