Since injuries intervened, Simon has been struggling to recapture the brilliant counter-punching all-surface tennis which took him into the top ten a couple of years ago. He is still regularly seeded at the slams and is currently ranked 34 but is no longer challenging for the big titles and it remains to be seen if the Frenchman can turn that around.

He should reach the quarters this week and has a great opening draw against Jamaican wildcard Dustin Brown.

Brown cuts an imposing figure at 6’5 and has a colossal serve but his serve-volley game thrives on fast, low bouncing courts and he is likely to get cut to pieces here by Simon’s passing shots.
