Gael Monfils has a tough task against Florian Mayer in the Mercedes Cup quarters.

Monfils found it tough going from a quick indoor hard court in the Davis Cup at the weekend to clay and he was on court for over two hours as he scraped past Spanish qualifier Pablo Andujar 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

"I've come from a hard, quick indoor court to clay, so I needed time today to find my rhythm,"  Monfils said. "I'm looking forward to playing even better tomorrow."

German Mayer has been on top form in front of his home fans, outplaying sixth seeded compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-2 in round one followed by a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

He has played Monfils once before, losing in the Sopot final five years ago. However this match represents a prime chance for Mayer to gain revenge and expect him to give his supporters something to cheer about going into the weekend.
