Marion Bartoli will meet No. 23 seed Yanina Wickmayer in the semi-finals of this week’s prestigious BNP Paribas OpenFollowing a straight sets victory over former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic, Marion Bartoli has set herself up for a semi-final clash against Yanina Wickmayer in this week’s BNP Paribas Open. Bartoli has achieved a number of good results this week, despite suffering from a stomach bug. She coped well on court yesterday against Ivanovic, so she still stands out as a genuine contender for the WTA Indian Wells title.
Wickmayer had no such struggles, and will be pleased with how she’s played here. She achieved her third successive win against a seeded opponent yesterday against tenth seed Shahar Peer. Peer had entered the match as the favourite, but was unable to deal with the Belgian, who cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Bartoli currently has a 2-0 head to head record against Wickmayer, having defeated her twice last season. Both wins were closed out within straight sets. Bartoli appears to have the edge here, but this match looks a little too close to call.
