Wawrinka has a valuable price in this head to head match.

Marin Cilic has lost some some favor in the futures market for the 2010 Australian Open outright champion, likely as a result of his struggle in the second round against up-and-comer Bernard Tomic.

Cilic was considered a dark horse to win the Australian Open title but his pre-tournament price in the outright winner's market (currently +3300, 33/1; Stan James) has not shortened with a lot of sportsbooks even though he is now in the 3rd round in Melbourne.

Cilic now draws Stanislas Wawrinka who is a huge longshot to win the title as he sits at +12500 (125/1; bet365) to win the 2010 Australian Open.  Truthfully, Wawrinka might be a better longshot-darkhorse type pick then Cilic now, at least to win his quarter or to make the final.

The odds for the heads up match between Wawrinka and Cilic suggest that this third round match is going to be a close contest:

Marin Cilic to win, -125 (4/5), Coral.

Stanislas Wawrinka to win, +125 (5/4), bet365.

It is very rare to see odds that have identical absolute values, even when the best prices of competing sportsbooks are looked at.  There has to be value somewhere so let's look at some power rankings for these two players based on what each have done in their previous two matches.

Marin Cilic, Rounds 1 and 2

Games won-games lost: 48-35, 57.8%.
Average ranking of competition: 178th.

Stanislas Wawrinka, Rounds 1 and 2

Games won-games lost: 36-15, 70.6%.
Average ranking of competition: 72nd.

Analysis

Stanislas Wawrinka has done much better so far in the Australian Open than Marin Cilic has.  They have both won both of their matches, however Wawrinka has faced higher ranked competition than Cilic has and Wawrinka has also been much more efficient in beating the competition.

Furthermore, Wawrinka is 4-1 head to head in his career against Marin Cilic and the only loss Wawrinka has suffered to Cilic, in Chennai a short time ago, was in 2 tiebreakers.

Look for Wawrinka to be the fresher of the two players in this match and priced at +125, he's a total steal.
