World number twelve Marin Cilic will be hoping to get his French Open campaign off to a positive start in his match against Ricardo Mello. Cilic has had a very productive season so far, winning two ATP Tour titles, and winning twenty-six of his thirty-four matches this year.

Mello is an experienced player, but shouldn’t cause Cilic too much trouble. Mello has only played eleven ATP Tour matches all season, and will probably struggle today. Cilic will hope to get this match finished in a routine manner, so that he can concentrate on later rounds.

He clearly has the ability to do well, and proved in the BMW Open earlier this month that he can perform with confidence on clay courts.

This match may seem to be going only one way, though Mello does have a slight chance. Even if the result seems to be a foregone conclusion, it should be worth watching Cilic. He’s only twenty-one years old, and may be amongst the main contenders here in future years.
