It’s a tough opening match on grass for Cilic. Mahut is an out and out serve-volleyer and made the final at Queens three years ago, losing a tight match to Andy Roddick.
This year the Frenchman had to come through qualifying before taking out Yen-Hsun Lu 7-6, 6-4 in the first round so he has already had four matches on the surface.
He will be going into this one with quite a bit of confidence having taken out Cilic at Queens this time last year.
Cilic started 2010 in fine style, winning titles in Chennai and Zagreb but his form has tailed off since then. He put up a decent showing at the French Open, making the fourth round but is not at his best.
Mahut to edge this one and cause the first big upset of the tournament.
