Cilic snapped Mardy Fish's winning streak, beating the Atlanta champion 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the third round. It was a welcome win for Cilic after a lean grass court season and he showed some mental strength at crucial times in the deciding set, fighting off three break points.

Tipsarevic brought Sam Querrey quickly back down to earth in the second round earlier this week. The Serb is a notable giant-killer and he knocked out the Los Angeles champion 7-6, 6-3 before following that up with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lleyton Hewitt's conqueror Alejandro Falla.

However Cilic has a dominant 4-0 record against Tipsarevic in their previous matches so the Serb's chances do not look good.
