The world No.23 has won 18 of his 28 matches this season, and has an outside chance of reaching the latter stages of this competition. Karlovic is the world No. 138, and is expected to struggle on Tuesday. Even so, the big man’s serve is a real weapon, and he shouldn’t be written off. Karlovic already has 352 aces to his name for 2011, and he’s won an impressive 92 percent of his service games this year.
The only previous ATP World Tour contest between Cilic and Karlovic took place last season on the hard courts of Zagreb. Cilic won the match 7-6(6), 6-4, and it seems likely that the younger man will have the edge again on Tuesday. Karlovic is capable of making things difficult for Cilic though, and this match will get very interesting if Karlovic can secure a few breaks.
