Marin Cilic has made a reasonably good start to the season, and will be eager to get back into the top twenty. The big Croat should be looking to make the most of the next four weeks of tennis, as his height and power of serve have the potential to be very effective on grass. Having received a bye in round one, he should be well rested ahead of this match as well.

Still, there’s a chance that he’ll be caught cold in his first match on grass. His opponent on Wednesday will be the experienced Frenchman Arnaud Clement. Whilst Clement’s best years appear to b behind him, he should be more than capable of providing a threat to Cilic, especially if the world No. 27 gets off to a slow start.

Cilic enters this match with a 2-2 head to head record against Clement, but is on a two-match winning streak against him and should have the momentum. It would be unfair to write Clement off completely, but Cilic is evidently the favourite, and should be aiming for a third successive straight sets victory against the 33 year-old.
