World No. 6 Maria Sharapova will do battle with Shuai Peng in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2011You can watch and bet on the action from Wimbledon at bet365Maria Sharapova lived up to her new billing as tournament favourite in round three by beating Klara Zakopalova in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). The Russian could well be on the right track to clinch a second career Wimbledon title, though some critics have accused her of inconsistency in recent times. Right now though, it’s a case of so far so good for Sharapova at Wimbledon 2011.
Having broken back into the top ten this year, Sharapova could well be the next player to achieve some sort of dominance at Wimbledon. The Williams sisters are evidently competitive this year, but following their lengthy absences it seems a little early to tout either of them as the favourite.
Sharapova will continue her campaign with a fourth round matchup against Shuai Peng. Sharapova has a 2-1 head to head record against the world No. 20, which includes a victory this season at Indian Wells. Peng shouldn’t be written off though. She made good progress last week at the All-England Club, and has only lost one set so far.
