Maria Sharapova will meet Petra Kvitova on Saturday for an eagerly awaited Wimbledon 2011 final

Maria Sharapova has been in razor sharp form at Wimbledon 2011, and stands just one win away from winning back the title that she held back in 2004. The Russian has looked unstoppable at times, and displayed great strength of mind to fight off the determined challenge of Sabine Lisicki in the semi-finals.

Sharapova’s shoulder troubles seem to be a thing of the past, and the former world No. 1 is showing plenty of signs that she could make a return to the top of the world rankings in the not-so-distant future. She’s bounced back from the inconsistencies of last season also, so much so that she’s not even dropped a set yet in this competition. She will now face Petra Kvitova in Saturday’s final.

Kvitova has produced some of her best tennis over the past two weeks, and doesn’t seem to be out of her depth here at the All-England Club. She showed a lot of nerve in her three-set dismissal of fourth seed Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals, despite making a shaky start to the second set. It looks like she’ll struggle against Sharapova, but she’s clearly got the ability to contend for this title. Saturday’s final could turn out to be a thriller.
