Maria Sharapova was the top seed in this year’s Internationaux de Strasbourg, and will be in good spirits having lived up to her billing so far. Sharapova went into this tournament desperately seeking form in time for Roland Garros, and so far it seems as if this mission has been accomplished. She made it into the final with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Anabel Medina Garrigues.

Following a disappointing first set, Sharapova showed terrific poise to battle back against Garrigues, who is clearly a strong player on clay. Sharapova will secure this week’s title if she manages to beat fellow finalist Kristina Barrois today.

Barrois has never won a WTA Tour event, or even made a final, so understandably seemed delighted with her three set semi final win against Vania King (2-6, 6-2, 7-6). She stated after the match that she was merely hoping to do her best against Sharapova tomorrow, seeing as Sharapova is expected to win.

Whilst this could be an attempt at reverse psychology, it is still hard to picture Barrois lifting the title today. Sharapova will be hoping for one last victory in time for the French Open, and this is her opportunity to get it.
