Maria Sharapova has played the best tennis of her post-shoulder injury career and that has earned her some favor for the Wimbledon title.
Watch and bet on this week's grass court tournaments in Eastbourne and the Netherlands at bet365>live tennis.
Maria Sharapova, prior to the 2011 French Open, had not made the semifinals of any Grand Slam tournament since returning from her shoulder injury in 2009.
However with her semifinal appearance at Roland Garros, a follow-up to a title from WTA Rome, Sharapova appears to be playing near her best tennis once again as the semifinal appearance duplicated her best career result from the clay court Slam.
Next up for Sharapova is Wimbledon, a tournament that she is considered to be one of the favorites to win.
Coral, for example, price Sharapova as the outright favorite at 7/2 while
bet365 have the Russian as second favorite at 4/1 (Serena Williams 7/2 is
bet365's favorite).
Sharapova has won Wimbledon before however that was seven years ago now. She has not been back to the semifinals in five years and in the last four events from the All England Club she has not made it past the fourth round.
The Russian could very well be over-rated for the Wimbledon title with Williams a clear threat along with Na Li and Petra Kvitova.
Kvitova appears to be the player below the radar as she made the semifinals last season and has only improved since then. If Serena Williams is not at her best in time for Wimbledon, which starts on June 20th, then the Czech star could run the tables in the Grand Slam draw.
