Mardy Fish faces Austria's Jurgen Melzer for a place in the final of the Kooyong Classic.
Fish suffered a miserable start to 2012 at the Hopman Cup last week. He was outplayed by Tomas Berdych in straight sets and then suffered the humiliation of a 6-2, 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov. Fish was very fortunate to avoid sanctions from the tour after becoming riled by the antics of the Bulgarian fans and spitting at them.
However he's put it all behind him in Kooyong this week and defeated Milos Raonic 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round, although the Canadian later pulled out of the event with a stomach upset.
Melzer looked very impressive in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and he will fancy his chances against Fish who's never been at his best on the medium paced hard courts of Australia.
Not only that but Melzer leads their head-to-head 4-1, winning their last three matches. He won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4) in Brisbane back in 2009 and then 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on the clay of Madrid a couple of years ago.
Prediction: Melzer in two.
