Mardy Fish gets a taste of the Hopman Cup when he takes on Frederik Nielsen in the USA's tie against Denmark.
Going by the stats, this one looks set to be a bit of a mismatch. Fish enjoyed the best season of his career in 2011, finishing the year ranked inside the top eight and qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals.
Nielsen has never been higher than 190 in the world and has never been further than the qualifying rounds of any of the slams. He spends most of his time competing in futures and challenger events but he's only made 1 quarter-final at that level since Wimbledon.
Nielsen does have a fairly heavy serve and decent volleys which should keep this one a little competitive but otherwise this should be a fairly comfortable workout for Fish. The American has chosen to keep his Australian Open preparations fairly low key, heading straight to Melbourne at the end of this week where he'll compete in the Kooyong Classic (an eight player exhibition) ahead of the year's first major.
It should be an interesting week for Fish and his big test will come on Wednesday when he's scheduled to play world number seven Tomas Berdych as the USA meet the Czech Republic.
