Mardy Fish looks for revenge against Ernests Gulbis in the Montreal Masters later on.
Fish finally ended his dismal run at the Canadian Masters, earning his first career win at the event yesterday, an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Feliciano Lopez.
Fish has been properly looking to cash in on the top ten appearance fees and ranking points available during the US Open Series. He was initially scheduled to play all seven events but wisely pulled out of last week's Legg Mason Classic after making back to back finals in Atlanta and Los Angeles.
It's been an impressive few weeks for the world number eight but the acid test comes in events like these. Does he really believe he's worthy of a place in the top ten and able to live with the top four ?
This will be a fascinating clash as they met in the L.A .final a fortnight ago. Gulbis' power proved too much for Fish that day and he swept to his second career title. He's on one of his hot streaks at the moment and after wins over Juan Carlos Ferrero and Michael Llodra this week, he's going to come out swinging with nothing to lose.
Fish will feel under a fair bit of pressure here as after the shock defeats for Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, the bottom half of the draw is wide open. It's a golden chance for him to make the final but this match is quite a banana skin.
Prediction: Fish in three.
