Marcos Baghdatis is up against Xavier Malisse in the Legg Mason Classic semi-finals.

Malisse stunned top seed Tomas Berdych in round three, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to reach his second ATP semi-final of the year. The Belgian dealt with the lunchtime gusting winds far better than Berdych who looked considerably lacklustre at times. Berdych was furious with the scheduling having been involved in a night match the day before and blamed lack of sleep for his sluggish display. However Malisse had also been involved in a tense struggle with John Isner just ten hours before so it was the same for both men.

Baghdatis is reaping the benefits of teaming up again with his former coach in Los Angeles last week. He had his second top ten win over the year against Fernando Verdasco, 7-6, 6-4 on Friday. Both players struggled for control in the day session match with Baghdatis saying he felt the balls were really flying.

Baghdatis and Malisse met last year in the Vancouver final when things were very different for both players. Malisse was ranked outside the top 200 and Baghdatis was down at 134. Baghdatis won in straight sets that day but so far this week Malisse is probably playing the better tennis so do not be surprised if he wins.
