Marcos Baghdatis is due to meet Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday in the second round of the BMW OpenYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Munich Open at bet365Marcos Baghdtis finally snapped a six-match losing streak this week by beating Julien Benneteau of France in the first round of the BMW Open. The popular Cypriot has been out of sorts in recent weeks, but might still prove to be a contender for this week’s title if he can find some form. He has a history of doing well here, and made his second Munich semi-final in last year’s event. He will now take on Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the third round.
Dimitrov wasted no time in ousting German wildcard entrant Andreas Beck in round one. The Bulgarian left the court with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, and if he can produce another similar performance on Wednesday, then Baghdatis might have a real fight on his hands. Despite this, it’s worth noting that Dimitrov hasn’t made the most explosive start to 2011, and the youngster seems likely to fall short against the world No. 25.
This will be the first ATP World Tour matchup between Baghdatis and Dimitrov. Dimtrov lacks experience at this level, and most pundits are tipping Baghdatis to pull through. Even so, the patchy nature of Baghdatis’s recent form makes this contest a little tougher to predict, and this could prove to be a very close and exciting match.
