Baghdatis has returned to form this summer after linking up again with his former coach and his form in Washington (finished runner-up) and Cincinnati (beat Rafael Nadal on the way to the semis) suggests he could go deep this fortnight.

He could do with a good run in New York having never previously made it past round two despite quick hard courts being his best surface.

Clement has done well to still be well inside the top 100 at the age of 32 but the Frenchman is no longer the force of old. He has only won a single match in a fairly miserable summer to date in the States.

Baghdatis and Clement have a history but in recent years it's all been about the Cypriot who's won their last four matches including a 7-6, 6-1 win in Indian Wells earlier this year.
