Lourdes Dominguez Lino will begin her charge for the WTA Fes Open title with a first round match against Melanie Oudin

Lourdes Dominguez Lino is the third seed for this week’s WTA Fes Open, and will enter the competition in good spirits following Spain’s Fed Cup World Group play-off success against France at the weekend. The Spaniard has already won one clay court competition this season (WTA Bogota), and should be one of the main contenders for the title here in Morocco. She will face Melanie Oudin in round one.

Oudin hasn’t enjoyed the same kind of success this year, and enters this contest with a 5-14 season record. To add to this, Oudin suffered two straight set defeats at the weekend, as the USA crashed out of the Fed Cup World Group. There’s a chance that Oudin will be able to turn things around here, but it won’t be easy.

Dominguez Lino and Oudin have never previously met in WTA competition, making the outcome of this match slightly tougher to predict. Recent form suggests that Dominguez Lino will leave the court with a victory, but the result here is not exactly a foregone conclusion.
