Defending champion Lleyton Hewitt will meet Philipp Kohlschreiber on Friday in the quarter-finals of the Gerry Weber Open

Lleyton Hewitt has returned from injury with a pair of confident victories, and still seems to have a reasonable chance of retaining his Gerry Weber Open title. The Aussie hasn’t lost a set here, and is evidently far more of a contender than his world ranking of No. 73 suggests.

Hewitt is in for a big challenge in the quarter-finals though, as he’ll be up against Philipp Kohlschreiber. Kohlschreiber is currently the world No. 49, and has the ability to put up a real fight on Friday. To add to this, he’ll be supported by the home crowd here in Halle, and this could help him to step up his game.

Hewitt enters this contest with a 2-1 head to head record against Kohlschreiber, though the pairing haven’t met in ATP competition since 2006. Past form might not be the best indicator of Friday’s result, and to add to this, Hewitt and Kohlschreiber have never previously met on grass. Hewitt appears to be the slight favourite, though there’s not much to choose between these two competitors at this moment in time.
