Lleyton Hewitt takes on Gael Monfils in the final of the Kooyong Classic.
Hewitt may not have been impressed with his draw at the Australian Open (he plays former world number three David Nalbandian in round one) but the Aussie will be delighted with his form going into the tournament after a couple of confidence boosting wins over high quality opposition at the Kooyong Classic.
He ground out a trademark gutsy three set win over world number ten Mikhail Youzhny on Wednesday and out-hustled Doha runner-up Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 7-6 in yesterday's semi-finals.
Monfils has had his back to the wall all week and the Frenchman has twice had to fight back from a set down to get past Fernando Verdasco and then Jurgen Melzer.
The head-to-head between these two is locked at 2-2 but they have never played on outdoor hard. Hewitt won the last one 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 at Wimbledon last year. The home support should see him pull through here.
