Lleyton Hewitt went under the knife again for the second time in 18 months just days after his Australian Open defeat to Roger Federer.

Hewitt’s troublesome hip will eventually end his career but Hewitt is determined to push it for a few more years yet after a return to the top 20 following his fourth round run in Melbourne.

“That (retirement) never went through my mind.I've worked too hard to come back. I feel like I'm hitting the ball as well as I've nearly ever hit it," he said. "The bloke I lost to at the start of this week (Federer), he's as good as you get right at the moment. I don't feel like I'm that far away--my ball striking--from doing some damage in the Grand Slams.”

Hewitt is eyeing a speedy recovery to allow him to compete in the French Open but his next realistic chance of a decent grand slam run is Wimbledon where he lost to Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals last year.

"I was only one or two points away from making the semis there,” he said. “I feel like if I can get back and play some matches before Wimbledon, I have an outside chance of doing well."
