Laura Robson, one of Britain's future stars, will be hopeful that the back of a home crowd will help her get into the second round of Wimbledon.
Laura Robson, the new hope for British tennis on the women's side, is just 17 years old and as of yet her career has not quite taken off as many expected when she burst onto the scene in 2008, by winning the junior Wimbledon title.
She has continued to play on the junior tour and only now is she beginning to be properly involved in Challenger events. Her world ranking of 257th means that she is only playing at this year's Wimbledon thanks to a wild card entry, that itself thanks in no small part to her status as a British national.
Robson will face Germany's Angelique Kerber in the first round at the All England Club on Tuesday and she is certain to be well supported by a fanatical SW19 crowd. That could well help her to get past her opponent, who is not enjoying her best tennis at the moment.
Kerber has won just two of her last ten WTA matches and she could well be outside the top 100 herself next month. She is far from finished, aged just 23, but the German looks destined for a career on the Challenger Tour and WTA events may well dry up in the future.
Kerber did reach the third round at Wimbledon last year, so she certainly can't be discounted and odds of 8/15 (
Victor Chandler) will appeal to some punters. However, it may well be worth taking a chance on Robson to respond to the partisan crowd and give British women's tennis a boost by qualifying for the second round.
She is 18/11 (
Unibet) to win on Tuesday and that is a good price for a small stakes bet.
