Agnieszka Radwanska only needed to take a set from Petra Kvitova on Friday to earn a berth in the semi-finals of the WTA Championships, but she fell short as Kvitova came alive halfway through the first set. Radwanska was 5-1 up in the opening set, but the Czech once again began to demonstrate her indoor prowess, and clinched the set in a tie-breaker.

Kvitova then carried on in the same manner to see out the match in straight sets (7-6(4), 6-3). "Even when I was 5-1 up, I didn't feel close to winning the set," admitted Radwanska after the match. "She started to play unbelievable. She was hitting the ball very hard."

Kvitova revealed that she lacked focus early on. "When I started today I was a bit confused,” she said. “I didn't know what to do and was surprised Aga was moving so well. Luckily I was able to refocus. And the atmosphere today was unbelievable. The people who came today were great, I hope they can come tomorrow too."

After winning all three of her group matches in straight sets, Kvitova now has her sights set on the title. "I didn't expect this, winning all three matches in my group and making it to the semifinals," commented the Wimbledon champion. "I hope tomorrow won't be the end."
