Ksenia Pervak will face Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka in the second round of the WTA Monterrey Open

Ksenia Pervak stunned the crowd here in Monterrey on Tuesday with an impressive 6-1, 7-5 victory over No. 4 seed Julia Goerges. Goerges was expected to be one of the main contenders for this week’s title, and Pervak will stand every chance of reaching the latter stages of this competition if she can maintain her first round form. Her next match will be against Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic.

Hradecka betrayed her status as a qualifier in round one with an accomplished 6-2, 6-2 win against fellow compatriot Zuzana Ondraskova. Hradecka is ranked just above Pervak in the world rankings, and should fancy her chances of reaching the quarter-finals. Even so, the young Russian should be in a confident mood, and could be a tricky opponent following her success against Goerges.

Hradecka holds a 3-0 head to head lead against Pervak, with two of these victories occurring this season. All of the matches between the pairing have been finished in two sets, and Pervak might have to adjust her game a little to improve her chances of making the next round.
