Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has looked in superb form so far in the Kooyong Classic.
Tsonga has only played one match to date after his semi-final with Juan Martin Del Potro was cancelled after the Argentine withdrew with a wrist injury. However on Wednesday, Tsonga powered past Robin Soderling 7-6, 6-1.
Haas in contrast has found the quality of the field a bit hard going. He has given Novak Djokovic plenty of problems in the past, beating him in last year’s Wimbledon quarter-finals but Djokovic outplayed his sometime nemisis 6-2, 6-3 in round one. Haas continued to look out of sorts on Thursday, losing again to Fernando Gonzalez 6-2, 6-4.
He will be desperate to finish the event with a win to get some kind of confidence going into the Australian Open and he did beat Tsonga on the grass of Halle last year, 6-3, 7-6.
However the French number one is much more comfortable on hard courts and it is hard to see beyond a Tsonga straight sets win.
