Kim Clijsters plays Venus Williams in the second US Open semi-final later today.

It's the blockbuster semi-final match up which will really get the crowd going on day 12 of the US Open. Clijsters is just two wins away from a hat-trick of US Open crowns while Venus is hoping to prove that at 30 she's still a genuine slam contender.

Crucially, aside from her Wimbledon successes, Venus has not made a slam final since the Australian Open in 2003. She's a two-time US Open champion but those successes were all the way back in 2000 and 2001.

However she has looked very comfortable so far en route to the semi-finals, yet to even drop a set, seeing off Francesca Schiavone 7-6, 6-4 in the last eight. Clijsters has dropped the one set to Sam Stosur but never really looked like going out. 

Tactically, the Clijsters serve could be a key factor in this match. The Belgian has struggled this week with her ball toss in the strong winds and became increasingly frustrated during her quarter-final against Stosur. Venus will look to get on top of the Clijsters serve as much as possible and if she can put some doubt into the Belgian's mind it could swing the contest her way.

These two are 6-6 on head-to-head but Venus has not won one since 2005. Clijsters has beaten her on the way to both her US Open titles including a bizarre 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 win in the fourth round last year. They also played in the Miami final in April where Clijsters stormed to a crushing 6-2, 6-1 win.
