Kim Clijsters played a starring role as Belgium destroyed the United States 4-1 in the Fed Cup.
It's been a decade since Belgium last won the Fed Cup, the most prestigious team competition in women's tennis. However with Clijsters in this form they have every chance in 2011.
The USA were badly missing the Williams sisters and they never stood a chance. Clijsters wrapped up victory with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over the unorthodox Bethanie Mattek-Sands on Sunday afternoon and then Yanina Wickmayer rubbed more salt into American wounds with a resounding 6-2, 6-0 win over Melanie Oudin.
It was left to the experienced doubles pairing of Liezel Huber and Vania King to salvage a smidgeon of pride for the Americans, preventing a complete whitewash by taking the final rubber.
Clijsters is the form player in women's tennis at the moment and she looks likely to return to the world number one spot this week. She's competing in the Open GDF Suez in Paris and just needs to win two matches to usurp Caroline Wozniacki at the top of the rankings. Most will be hoping she does so as she is indisputably the player to beat right now.
