Number 15 seed Kim Clijsters was stunned Russia's Nadia Petrova on Friday.

The number 19 seed sent Clijsters crashing out of the Australian Open 2010 after winning their third round clash 6-0 6-1.

It was a huge shock for the Belgian, who was tipped by many to fare well in Melbourne and potentially add another Grand Slam title to her list of achievements.

But the 2009 US Open champion, who had won all four previous matches against the Russian, was never in contention as she was simply played off the court, racking up a total of 26 unforced errors.

It was Clijsters' worst Australian Open result since her debut at Melbourne Park in 2000 and nobody would have expected the defeat to be so heavy, especially as the Belgian has reached at least the semi-final stages on her last five visits to Melbourne Park.

Clijsters offered nothing in an opening set that lasted just 18 minutes, winning just five points in the process.

After the match, the 26-year-old said of Petrova: “She was good. But, you know, I let her.

“I made all the mistakes and she didn't really have to do much. She served really well and was aggressive in the rallies, but that's because I let her play into the courts ... I wasn't feeling the ball well. It sucks.”

She added: “This is something probably you want to forget as soon as possible and go home and ... just let it sit, get settled at home for a few days and then start working hard again and try to forget about it. Just stick to the routines.

“Everything I've been doing so far with my coach, my fitness coach, everything has been going really well.

"I'm going to try to not let a match like this get me down or start doubting myself or anything.”

Petrova will next play either Angelique Kerber or number three seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.
