The Australian Open women's final starts at 7:30pm Melbourne time on Saturday.
Li Na and Kim Clijsters will meet in the final for the 2011 Australian Open and most think that Clijsters is poised for her first Melbourne Park championship. Clijsters has been to the final of the Australian Open before however she has never won the event and Saturday night appears to be the golden opportunity.
Overall Clijsters has gotten the best of Li over the years as the Belgian leads their head to head series 4 wins to 2. They have played in two Grand Slam matches before with Clijsters winning both - one took place at the 2009 US Open and one took place at Wimbledon 2006.
Each player is on spectacular form as only Li has dropped one set at Melbourne Park this year and even that minor blip was against Caroline Wozniacki, the world number 1 player.
Li won the WTA Sydney event prior to Melbourne Park however and she defeated Clijsters in the final.
Li should enter Saturday with some confidence as a result and she should also garner some strength from her win over Wozniacki. Li appeared to work through nerves in that match and if she enters the final, not nervous, but confident in her abilities then she can pull off the upset.
However Clijsters' US Open accomplishments are impossible to ignore as she is the reigning champion and has not lost in that tournament since the 2003 final.
