Aranxta Rus has pulled off the shocker of the women's tournament and she is quickly making a name for herself at the 2011 French Open. The young Dutch player eliminated Kim Clijsters of Belgium in the second round at Roland Garros on Thursday in a three set match.
Clijsters actually served for the match at one point at 6-3, 5-3 however Rus broke serve at that point and the raced to a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory on Court Philippe Chatrier.
The Dutch player, before today, had never qualified for the third round of any Grand Slam and surely defeating the second ranked player in the world to make her debut at that stage in a major has to be considered a career highlight at this point. Rus is still just 20 years old and she now awaits the winner between Maria Kirilenko and Chanelle Scheepers in a section of the draw that now looks wide open.
Andrea Petkovic is now the highest seeded player in that eighth of the draw as she has to be hoping for at least a quarterfinal spot now although she's still to win her second round match.
