Justine Henin has been sidelined for the entire summer season due to an elbow fracture sustained at Wimbledon.

Henin picked up the injury during her fourth round defeat to Kim Clijsters. It is a further blow to the Belgian who has never quite recaptured the form which took her to the Australian Open final at the start of the year.

"I took several medical examinations that revealed a partial ligament fracture," Henin told her website. "This injury will keep me away from the courts during a rough period of two months.”

Henin won two US Open titles in 2003 and 2007 and would have been among the favourites in Flushing Meadows. She will hope to be back for the autumn indoor season and the end of year WTA Championships.
