Jurgen Melzer faces Canadian hope Peter Polansky in the Rogers Cup night match on day one.

Melzer is thirteenth seed this week and could potentially face Novak Djokovic in the third round. Ranked 15 in the world, this will be the Austrian's first outing on the hard courts this summer. He spent July on the European clay circuit enjoying mixed success but he did make the final in Hamburg.

This is a rare opportunity on the big stage for Polansky, ranked 200 in the world. He mainly competes in challengers with the odd foray into ATP qualifying. Going by his recent record, things do not bode well for his chances tonight - he crashed out at the first hurdle in the Granby and Vancouver challengers.  

Despite his lack of hard court preparation, Melzer should have too much class to be troubled tonight.
