Juan Martin Del Potro will be looking for a solid start to his ATP San Jose Open challenge when he meets Teimuraz Gabashvili on Monday

Juan Martin Del Potro will continue his bid to recapture his pre-injury form this week in the ATP San Jose Open. Del Potro is not seeded for this event, but stands out as perhaps the most dangerous floater in the draw. The Argentine has a 2-2 record for 2011, though it seems like it won’t be too long before he starts getting back to his best.

A three-set victory against Feliciano Lopez in Sydney last month made it clear that Del Potro shouldn’t be disregarded right now, even though he’s still trying to find his rhythm on court. He faces Teimuraz Gabshvili on Monday in the SAP Open first round, and will enter the match as the favourite. Gabashvili, the world No. 76, might be able to cause Del Potro some trouble, but is likely to face a real struggle here.

The indoor hard court here in San Jose should suit Del Potro’s game. Players with his height and ability tend to prosper in this event, and he might find himself amongst the title contenders towards the end of the week. It will be interesting to see what he can do over the next few days, as he’s capable of being one of the most exciting players on the tour.
