Juan Martin Del Potro will continue his bid for the SAP Open title with a second round match against Lukas Lacko

Del Potro is currently ranked No. 484 in the world, thanks to a long-term injury that destroyed his 2010 season. His comeback matches have shown some promise, though he’s still got some work to do to get back to his U.S Open winning standards. He got back on court at the end of last season, and was unable to win in Bangkok or Tokyo. That said, he has a 3-2 record for 2011, and appears to be finding his form once again. He will now face Lukas Lacko in the second round of the SAP Open.

The fans in San Jose will have been delighted by the Argentine’s most recent performance. Del Potro’s 6-3, 6-2 demolition of Teimuraz Gabashvili has led many to believe that the former world No. 4 can be a serious threat at this event. Lacko, who ranks just outside of the top hundred, has every reason to be concerned about the resurgence of his opponent. Even so, the young Slovak looked fearless in round one, causing an upset to beat No. 3 seed Sam Querrey in straight sets. It looks like we could be in for a superb match here.

This pairing last met on the Challenger Circuit in Bratislava back in 2006. Del Potro won the match 6-2, 6-2. Del Potro will enter this contest as the favourite, though Lacko has a decent chance here. It remains to be seen whether or not Del Potro is back to his best just yet.
