Juan Martin Del Potro will not be looking forward to tonight's opener against two-time former champion James Blake.
Expect an electric atmosphere for this one as Blake attempts to roll back the years and knock out the second seed. The veteran American won back to back titles in Stockholm in 2005 and 2006 back when he was troubling the world's top four.
He's only ever lost twice in the Swedish capital and he improved his record further on Tuesday, defeating 2009 runner-up Olivier Rochus 7-6(6), 6-3. Blake smashed down 17 aces and if he can repeat that, this one's probably going to be decided by the tiebreaks.
Del Potro has not competed since last month's Davis Cup semi-finals, bypassing the Asian swing altogether and it will be interesting to see how rusty the Argentine is. He played doubles earlier in the week with Marcos Baghdatis but this one will be a big step up in intensity.
There's a few tricky challenges awaiting him over the next few days as even if he gets past Blake tonight, David Nalbandian and Stanislas Wawrinka lie in wait over the next few rounds.
Del Potro leads 2-1 on the head-to-head and he won 6-4, 7-6(3) when they met in Los Angeles in the summer.
Prediction: Del Potro in three
