Juan Martin Del Potro had to put his temper to one side before sealing a four set victory.

Del Potro was leading the experienced Michael Russell comfortably by two sets to love but lost his cool over some of the line calling in the third set. Things boiled over when the umpire decided after one point that Del Potro had taken too long to ask for a review and refused to let him use a Hawkeye challenge.

Del Potro was furious and with concentration slipping, he dropped the set. However he recovered to win 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

It was not a totally convincing performance from Del Potro who admitted he was not completely fit after a wrist injury which forced him to withdraw from last week’s Kooyong Classic.
