Article recaps the big movers of the week with the February 28th ATP rankings.
There was no change in the top 10 with the February 28th rankings although Gael Monfils and Nicolas Almagro both inched a little bit closer.
Almagro, who won two clay court titles in February, made the final of ATP Acapulco last week where he lost to David Ferrer in a three set match.
Almagro is up from 13th to 12th and that is near a career high ranking for the Spaniard (11th) as he appears poised to make the top 10 for the first time in his career.
Richard Gasquet, a clay court titlist from 2010, is up 7 spots in the rankings thanks to his efforts at ATP Dubai 2011.
Roger Federer defeated the French national in the semifinals of that 500 series event however the 180 ranking points that Gasquet picked up for the semifinal appearance were enough to help see him ascend over several players in the rankings.
Gasquet is now ranked 21st on tour, still quite aways off of his career high ranking of 7th.
The big jumper in the top 100 on Monday was Juan Martin Del Potro as the recently crowned champion from ATP Delray Beach picked up 250 ranking points. The Argentine is now ranked 89th in the world and if his forehand continues to improve and if his health holds, the sky is the limit for the 2009 US Open champion as he continues to make his comeback.
Outside of the top 100, a young Russian player named Evgeny Donskoy has made a move. Donskoy is just 20 years old and 9 months and last week he ran the tables through the qualifying draw and the main draw of the Casablanca challenger. He's up 59 spots to his career high ranking of 200th and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain the momentum.
Big droppers: Fernando Gonzalez down 72 spots to world number 196; Ivo Karlovic down 76 spots to world number 217.
