Article looks at the progress Del Potro is making as he closes in on making the top 100 again.
Juan Martin Del Potro is into the third round at Delray Beach with some authority as the Argentine sent off Termuraz Gabashvili of Russia in straight sets on Thursday, 6-1, 6-1.
Del Potro is currently ranked outside of the top 150 on tour however with a title at Delray Beach he would be back into the top 100 as the 250 ranking points for the ATP 250 title would send him surging.
Since falling out of the top 400 earlier this year, Del Potro has made progress once again. He made the semifinals of ATP Memphis last week (l. to Roddick) and he looks poised for a deep run again this week.
In the next round Del Potro, who is 6'6", will face another giant as he draws South Africa's Kevin Anderson. Anderson has been playing strong tennis this season thus far however Del Potro is a more versatile player.
Del Potro and Anderson are the late match on Friday as part of the evening session from Delray Beach.
Other matches include Alejandro Falla vs Mardy Fish, Ivan Dodig vs Janko Tipsarevic, and Ryan Sweeting vs Kei Nishikori.
