The veteran Spaniard has been winning a lot of matches and titles lately.

Juan Carlos Ferrero probably isn't going to win the 2010 French Open but he has won a couple clay court tournaments in the past few weeks and the 30 year old veteran on the ATP tour has re-surged through the rankings in the last year.

At this time in 2009 Ferrero, who has been to the top of the rankings, was ranked 85th on tour.  He is now ranked 14th and that resurgence is a very impressive feat for a tennis player past his prime (30 is getting up there in tennis years).

Ferrero's recent results are not necessarily an indicator that he is a force for the French Open because he did not face top level competition in the Latin American clay court swing.  The best player Ferrero faced enroute to three finals appearances in his last three tournaments was countryman David Ferrer who Ferrero went 1-1 against in two matches.

With bet365 Ferrero has odds of +6600 (66/1) to win the 2010 French Open and you could put a tiny sprinkle on that price as it probably has more value than Rafael Nadal at -125 (4/5).  However, Federer's price of +250 (5/2) with Ladbrokes is still where the big money should be going.

At best Ferrero is a backup plan.

What you want to do is keep him in your back pocket for the clay court tournaments leading up to the French Open and then possibly take him to win his quarter at the French Open.  A semifinals appearance won't have such long odds as +6600, but at least it is realistic for Ferrero, a clay court specialist.
