The Davis Cup team-mates know each other’s games pretty well by now having just contested a tie for the USA against Serbia. A couple of weeks before that they squared off in the Memphis final with Querrey hitting back from a set deficit to win 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Both players breezed through their second round matches in straight sets. Isner did not face a break point during his 6-3, 7-5 win over Kevin Anderson.
It is likely to be an encounter dominated by heavy serving. The Indian Wells conditions could suit Isner slightly more, especially in a night match as the dry desert air makes the balls fly faster and encourages the serve-volleyers.
