Jo-Wilfried Tsonga goes for his second title of the indoor season on Sunday afternoon against Juan Martin Del Potro.
Tsonga reached his third ATP final of the season with a comfortable 6-2, 7-6(4) semi-final win over Daniel Brands. Tsonga has served superbly all week and he was never in trouble against the German qualifier, smashing down 13 aces.
Tsonga became a little frustrated in the second set with his inability to take his break point chances but he was relieved to get the job done in straight sets.
"It was difficult because I played well in this match," he reflected. "I had a lot of chances to break him and I didn’t do it and after that it was tough because I had to play a tie-break. [Overall] I did well. I started well; it’s good for me."
The race for London is hotting up and Del Potro really needs to win this week to stand any chance. He surged into the final, edging a big serving battle with Kevin Anderson 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The duo combined to smash down 35 aces in total but it was Del Potro who pounced at 5-4 in the deciding set, clinching victory on his first match point.
Tsonga may be eighth in the ATP Race but Del Potro will go into Sunday's final as slight favourite having won all three of their past matches.
Prediction: Del Potro in three.
