Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will take on British outsider James Ward in the semi-finals of this year’s AEGON ChampionshipsYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP London Open at bet365Jo-Wilfried Tsonga provided one of the biggest shocks of the week by beating French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the AEGON Championships. Nadal had seemed to be well on his way to victory, but the powerful Frenchman fought back to claim a superb 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1 win. The world No. 19 will now have his sights set on the title here.
Tsonga’s semi-final opponent will be world No. 216 James Ward. Ward has been enjoying an unexpected winning streak here at Queens, which has included victories over Stanislas Wawrinka and defending champion Sam Querrey. Ward was given another test on Friday against Adrian Mannarino, but held his nerve in the third set to claim his second win of the day.
This will be the first competitive showdown between Tsonga and Ward, and Ward will be attempting to make the most of his opportunity to reach his first ATP Tour final. Tsonga is clearly regarded as the favourite, and it will be a huge surprise if he loses this one. Even so, Ward appears to be in inspired form, and could prove to be a very tricky opponent.
