Jo-Wilfried Tsonga felt he couldn't have done any more after going down in three sets to Roger Federer to finish runner-up at the ATP World Tour Finals.
Tsonga has been hugely popular with the crowds at the O2 Arena this week and he gave it his all against Federer in Sunday's final, saving match point to gamely force a deciding set before ultimately falling 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3.
"Today I fought all I can," said Tsonga. "I'm just happy tonight because I had a good week. Of course, to win is better but I gave everything. Tonight I can look [at] myself in the mirror and say, 'Yeah, you fought enough.'"
It's been one of the best month's of Tsonga's career. He also made the final of the Paris Masters a fortnight ago and after beating Rafael Nadal, Tomas Berdych and Mardy Fish this week, he will finish the year as world number six.
No Frenchman has ever won the ATP World Tour Finals but Tsonga came closer than any of his countrymen. He said before the final that he was prepared to "break my two ankles" to win the title and he gave it everything he had, thrilling the crowd with his second set comeback but ultimately Federer's steely nerve saw him through.
