Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is eyeing up a place in the ATP World Tour Finals semi-finals after enjoying a straight sets win over Mardy Fish.
Tsonga bounced back from Sunday's three set defeat to Roger Federer to crush Mardy Fish 7-6(4), 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon, thrilling the crowd with a big hitting display, smashing 32 winners to total.
"It's really good to win for the first time here," Tsonga said afterwards. "Today I started better, even if he broke me back in the first. But I played well today. I have felt really good on the court. When I'm very aggressive and I put lot of pressure on my opponent, I'm able to play with everybody."
The Frenchman was relieved to claim the first set in a tiebreak after relinquishing numerous opportunities to take a stranglehold on the match, throwing away a 3-1 lead and then failing to serve out the set at 5-4. However he held his nerve in the breaker and ran away with the second set as Fish struggled to live with him in the baseline exchanges.
Tsonga now plays Rafael Nadal in a crunch match on Thursday with a place in the last four at stake. Tsonga will be buoyed after watching Nadal's game being decimated in just over an hour by Roger Federer.
