French dreams are down to Gael Monfils after Juan Martin Del Potro made Jo-Wilfried Tsonga tumble on Monday afternoon. Del Potro is now set to face Tommy Robredo in the French Open quarter-finals.

Juan Martin Del Potro dented France's chances of a French Roland Garros champion 6-1, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth round of the French Open. Del Potro took two hours and 41 minutes to finish off the four set match.

Tsonga had been able to dictate the pace of play against previous opponents Julien Benneteau, Juan Monaco, and Christophe Rochus, but Del Potro allowed Tsonga very little control on Monday.

Despite thumping his opponent with risky flat forehands, Del Potro kept his unforced errors to a minimum. Such a display allowed the world No. 5 to comfortably secure the first set 6-1.

The two players exchanged one break apiece as a tiebreaker was eventually needed to decide things in the second set. Tsonga showed his class to win the tiebreak by seven points to five, energizing the French fans.

Del Potro, however, was quick to put a stopper on Tsonga's momentum and used two breaks to ease through the third set 6-1. Del Potro was almost as unstoppable in the fourth set, dropping just four points in his last five service games. A break of serve allowed the 20 year old Del Potro to serve it out at 5-4.

Del Potro finished with an impressive 30 winners against 22 mistakes while Tsonga, consistently under pressure not only from Del Potro but the hopes and expectations of a nation, hit an embarrassing 41 unforced errors.
