No. 1 seed Jelena Jankovic will meet Sybille Bammer in round two of the WTA Monterrey Open

Jelena Jankovic eased her way into the second round in Monterrey with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Lourdes Dominguez Lino. The top seed is looking to win her thirteenth career title this week, and appears to be in the right kind of form to mount a challenge. She will face Sybille Bammer in the second round.

Bammer is ranked just outside of the top hundred, and hasn’t made a particularly good start to the season. That said, she showed great determination in round one to defeat Andrea Hlavackova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Austrian will have to raise her game in order to challenge the world No. 6 though. She hasn’t beaten Jankovic since 2006.

Jankovic is the clear favourite here, given her 8-1 head to head record against Bammer. Out of these eight victories, Bammer has only taken Jankovic into three sets twice.
