Jankovic came into the tournament short of forrn and confidence after ankle injuries in June and July had disrupted her game. She's been far from her best this week but has taken to winning ugly, grinding out two long three setters in stifling heat. One of the fastest and fittest players on tour, Jankovic will have been grateful for all those hours spent on physical conditioning.

The onset of rain means that conditions should be a lot cooler for today's clash with powerful Wimbledon quarter-finalist Kanepi. The Estonian served notice of her threat on the hard courts by taking out Shahar Peer in Montreal last month and she's done well to defeat two dangerous players in Alize Cornet and Akgul Amanmuradova so far this week. 

Kanepi has the weapons to hit Jankovic off the court here but with the Serb's speed she is going to have to play impeccable first strike tennis to do so. If Jankovic can get Kanepi into some long rallies she knows she'll be able to expose her poor movement but if Kanepi's finding the lines, Jankovic will have to be a little more proactive from the baseline , having played very passively in her two matches so far.    

They have played twice before. Kanepi won 6-2, 7-5 in Dubai last year but Jankovic got revenge 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at Roland Garros earlier this year. That sums up the way this one could go. If Kanepi starts fast and puts Jankovic on the back foot with her booming groundstrokes she could cruise to a straight sets win but if Jankovic can wear her down, Kanepi's likely to get frustrated and go down in three sets.
